Communication is foundational to the spread of the gospel. A command of the English language in speaking, writing, and reading is therefore the primary objective of the English courses at Fountainview Academy. Public speaking (Speech) is a component of each English course and accounts for 10% of the course mark.
Students will learn to compare, analyze, interpret, and evaluate poems, essays, and selections from longer works. They will write poems, narrative and persuasive essays, reports, and other short papers. Speaking skills will be developed by oral reading of passages from allegorical and biographical books, as well as short speeches.
This course aims to develop the students’ ability to understand and draw insightful conclusions from a wide variety of communication. They should be able to communicate precisely and clearly both in writing and orally, apply the customary language conventions and gather and organize information and ideas effectively.
This course is a college and provincial exam preparatory course in the mechanics of language, creative and expository writing, as well as reading comprehension and composition analysis.
