The air was thick with anticipation and excitement; for some, this was a new adventure—for others, it was a familiar scene. Either way, newbies and advanced snow enthusiasts sprinted off the buses into the ski lodge as soon as we arrived at the Mt. Timothy Ski Area. The snow looked beautiful; it was going to be a gorgeous day!
Our predictions proved correct, because when the sun showed its face some that day, lighting up the surrounding mountain range, the view from the top was breathtaking. As I rode up and down the lift, I saw nothing but smiles; even the ones new to the sport were having a good time as their friends taught them how to “carve” and turn on an edge.
All too soon, the lift operators told us that we could have one last run before the mountain closed. Of course, this came with disappointment, because we all could have skied into the night! A few avid skiers and boarders stopped before the set of three jumps and rails, taking turns on the terrain park then hiking back up to do it again. Eventually the staff came to tell us to come down, but we definitely enjoyed the speed and air we got on our last run of the day!
As we rode back to school, excited chatter could be heard throughout the bus, declaring what everyone already believed: it had been a great day.
