I was wondering what to do one Sunday morning, and there came across the intercom in the Boy’s Dorm an announcement for a so-called Fire Training session. Intrigued by this generous and rather interesting offer, I signed up, as did a few other guys. Little did we know what was ahead of us and it proved to be an exciting afternoon.

It all began with a small film and short lecture, nothing out of the ordinary, until we were sent down to the on-campus “station.”  As soon as the fire truck was pulled out, we all knew that this was going to be quite the “training” experience. All suited up in fire gear, we each tried our hand at managing the fire hose, some of us even maxing out at 150 psi of water pressure. The force of the water caught me by surprise as I somewhat struggled to keep the hose under control. As the spray of water glistened in the rays of the sun, time flew by and before we knew it our training time had come to an end. After replenishing the water in the truck and storing everything away, I left with a new-found fondness and respect for the men and women who risk their lives everyday to save those in need. All in all, I have to say that it was a great experience and I’m looking forward to the next fire training opportunity!
