Sovereign, noble, all knowing, honorable, praise-worthy, enduring—beautiful, God is beautiful.
God has always been portrayed as someone who is in control. He is the creator and our Redeemer. We know that He is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient, but have you my friend ever been told that our God is beautiful? Yes, He holds the universe in place, yes, He knows the number of stars in the vast sky, but God is so much more than just power and majesty. My God is the possessor of indescribable beauty, beauty that can never be attained through outward show, beauty that radiates when compared to all the rubbish and false beauty that we’ve been sold into by this world.
It all happened one crisp evening as clusters of students slowly began to trickle into the chapel. I comfortably found a place to sit close to the front, eager to hear what God had to say to me that night. At the preacher’s mention of the fact that my God was beautiful, I remained somewhat in shock. I had given little thought to what my Heavenly Friend was truly like. I found myself in thought saying, Lord forgive me because I do not really know you. Please give me the desire to search you with my whole heart. Give me a deep craving within my soul to discover what I have been blinded to for so long.
“Lord I want to know you more, deep within my soul I want to know you, to feel your heart and know your mind, looking in your eyes stirs up within me cries that say I want to know you; Lord I want to know you more.” As the harmony of melodic voices blended together at the close of each meeting, my heart was stirred, my soul revived and an indescribable realization of the beauty of my God awakened in my heart the need to see Him—the need to see His beauty.
